IHAA is a prevention and early intervention program providing training to mental health professionals in schools, social service and behavioral health agencies on reservations to educate and train mental health professionals, school counselors and teachers in the highly effective Art Therapy and Neurodevelopmental Art Therapy trauma treatment for Native youth. We are collaborating with these agencies to implement art therapy programs, consulting and supporting to create art therapy programs as an adjunct curriculum within the education system on reservations nationwide. Art Therapy is an evidence-based, long-term solution to heal trauma, provide coping skills/esteem building, and prevent suicide/substance abuse, while helping children to become confident and active participants in local and global community. Art Therapy is culturally relevant and can include cultural teachings to reconnect them to their heritage.
